The Human Rights Program is pleased to present its 2023-2024 Henigson Fellow Rebecca Gore LLM’23.

Rebecca is a South African human rights lawyer and scholar. For the 2023-24 academic year, she will be a Henigson Fellow with the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s new initiative on Waging Justice for Women, where she will focus on data-driven strategic litigation and advocacy to reform discriminatory laws against women and promote accountability for gender-based violence in South Africa and Malawi.

Previously, Rebecca was the legal researcher for the Inspecting Judge of the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services, Justice Edwin Cameron, and a law clerk at the Constitutional Court of South Africa in the Chambers of Justice Edwin Cameron, Justice Steven Majiedt, and Justice Nonkosi Mhlantla. She has interned for The Presidency of the International Criminal Court in The Hague and various public interest organizations in South Africa.

While pursuing a Master of Laws at Harvard, Rebecca was an advanced clinical student at the International Human Rights Clinic and a project leader for Advocates for Human Rights. Rebecca also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (Cum Laude), a Postgraduate Honours degree in Justice and Transformation (First Class), and a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Distinction) from the University of Cape Town.

HRP’s post-graduate fellowships are designed to help launch the careers of students who have demonstrated great promise as advocates while at HLS. Fellows are placed with human rights organizations working under challenging circumstances. In light of the ravages accelerated by the pandemic, wars, growing authoritarianism and worldwide inequality, HRP is more committed than ever to supporting the careers of young professionals devoted to international human rights and social justice.
